Heritage and tradition come to life.
Merging Rich History with Modern Design
In addition to wanting a modern, better branded website, the National Scouting Museum came to us with the challenge of ensuring that the rich history, traditions, and artifacts—from the early 1900s to present day—were displayed online in a manner that felt as modern as the museum itself. Along with the vast array of scouting pieces, the museum is home to one of the largest Norman Rockwell collections, adding to its rich cultural significance for visitors of all ages.
Something for Everyone
The National Scouting Museum has a much wider audience than its name leads you to believe. This historical and educational institution falls into many categories: art museum, children’s museum, a full service Scout Shop, a camping supply store, and more; offering educational workshops and courses open to Scouts and non-Scouts alike. Understanding and appealing to each audience type required specific strategies. With detailed information architecture in place, the navigation and site structure provides easy access to what interests each audience type most; and, this refreshed online presence which better spotlights the broad spectrum of activities affords the museum a greater appeal across all audiences.
Custom Categorization for Efficiency and Ease
From rotating exhibits to permanent collections, the Museum houses countless art pieces, artifacts, and vintage items. To increase efficiency in the cataloging process, Insite ensured that each piece entered into the Content Management System could be assigned to multiple categories. This functionality saves the Museum staff time by eliminating the need to upload a single item multiple times depending on the category.
Explore the Museum... Online!
To help online visitors grasp how expansive and hands-on the Museum is, Insite integrated an interactive map into the website using a custom Mapplic jQuery plugin. This interactive piece provides an engaging way for potential visitors to plan their visits and keep up with the newest exhibit offerings. Each map point is editable by the Museum’s in-house team so the map can always be accurate and up-to-date with the latest additions.
